Byzantine Private Tessera (Bronze, 6.99 g. 24 mm.) N.? (10th century)
Obv: Patriarchal cross (X on first crossing) on three steps with fleurons arising from base (up to first traverse bar). On pellet in each upper quarter. Circular inscription: +Κ(ύρι)ε βοήθει τῷ σῷ δούλῳ. Border of dots.
Rev: Inscription of four lines beginning with a cross: Κ(ύρι)ε βοήθει [?]. Border of pellets within concentric circles of dots.
Translate: Lord, help your servant N.?
Although the design on both sides is typical for seals, the absence of the channel makes it clear that it is a bronze private tessera or a token, which is rare for the Byzantine period.
