THE ARTIST'S BIO:
Łukasz Wodyński was born in 1985 in Bydgoszcz, Poland. In 2000 he started his education in the Leon Wyczółkowski National High School of Fine Arts in Bydgoszcz, majoring in graphic design. In 2005 he defended his diploma in Franciszek Otto's studio. Since 2005 he continued his education at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, majoring in easel painting with a specialization in painting in architecture. In 2010 he defended with distinction his diploma in painting in the studio of Prof. Piotr Klugowski. In 2011 he co-founded in Toruń the Foundation for Development and Creative Activity "Les Artes". ( 01.01.2011 - 01.09.2011 Member of the Board), where he conducted workshops in drawing and painting techniques. He also collaborates with various artists by illustrating publications, creating videos and live sound and visual projects.
Wodyński's work is multi-layered. First of all, he focuses on the subject of man and the deep existential, emotional and spiritual background connected with it. He also touches upon the problems of the postmodern world, realizing the scale of the challenges he has to face. He draws attention to a number of threats to the further development of civilization, emphasizing the metaphysical value of the individual as a unique being. Through the visual language, the artist seeks analogies and connections between the real world, technology and spirituality. His work is a field of research on the merging of ephemeral, emotional and emotional reality with tangible, material and alternative, digital reality.
Apart from classical visual techniques such as drawing, painting and sculpture, the artist uses all kinds of new media techniques such as installation, sound, digital photography and video. He also carries out Live Acts projects (which are a synthesis of performance and visual arts using his own body). In spite of his expressive form referring to the New Figuration trend or Vienna Actionism, Wodyński draws on the language of Renaissance and Baroque art using, among others, lasering (a technique of multilayer painting), tenebrism and luminism.
