The car is equipped with a V12 engine, specifically the version produced from 1988 to 1991, exclusively available with automatic transmission. It underwent a significant restyling, including the addition of a soft-top convertible roof with a rear window that could be opened in 12 seconds. The V12 engine was later adopted in the subsequent 1992 version, with a displacement of 5.3 liters and 284 horsepower.
This is the last model of the XJ-S series before the management change undertaken by Ford, which permanently converted the engine to a V12 configuration. As a result, the model name changed, and from 1992 onwards, it became known as the XJS.
