MILEAGE SINCE RESTORATION, APPROXIMATELY 1000 KMRESTORATION DOCUMENTED WITH PHOTOS AND PAPERWORK PERFORMED BYCARPENTER, RANIERO IVANOPAINT SHOP BY PANAGIN GABRIELE, TORINOUPHOLSTERY BY SAVINO TOTAMECHANICAL RESTORATION WAS CARRIED OUT IN MILAN UPON THE REQUEST OF THE QUATTRO RUOTE MUSEUM
Prior to restoration, the car had a mileage of 45,000 km, now it has 10 km.
Present documents include the original registration booklet, historical certificates of ownership, and the current supplementary sheet in the name of the new owner. The car is registered in Italy and has always been in Italy, retaining the old license plate. It was registered on January 22, 1928, in Sassari. The current owner, who carried out the restoration work, has owned the car since 2008.
The car left the Fiat factory and was used with a sports livery. In the 1960s, it was purchased by the Quattro Ruote Museum, which refurbished the chassis, engine, transmission, suspension, and electrical system, without the body, to showcase how Fiat cars were presented in the 1920s, i.e., only with the chassis, with the refinement of the car being commissioned by the buyer or the coachbuilder themselves. A photo is included of the document proving its origin from the historical Quattro Ruote Museum, where it was exhibited to demonstrate the mechanics of 1920s vehicles (the chassis restoration was carried out by the Pettenella workshop) as a Fiat 505 automobile, which was certainly prestigious within the Fiat range. With its high displacement of 2300 cc, it was primarily intended for foreign markets. In the course of model evolution, it was later replaced in the mid-1920s by the Fiat 507, which maintained identical engine characteristics. As an automobile, it possesses authentic performance like its smaller siblings, such as the well-known Fiat 501, Fiat 502, and Fiat 503. It is believed that no more than fifteen Fiat 505s have survived (information obtained from the Fiat Italy and Fiat England registries), also due to the low number of units produced. The few remaining ones have not been found in Italy. This particular example has been kept in Italy by the owner of the Museum, Gianni Mazzocchi, who is also the owner of Casa Editrice Domus, which publishes Ruote Classiche and Quattro Ruote magazines.
Research conducted at the archives in Turin reveals that it was a vehicle intentionally sold in Italy only as a chassis, to be externally fitted by a private coachbuilder (Castagna, Farina, Ghiotti, Boneschi, Stala, Diberti).
It was exhibited at the museum for about twenty years, and then the museum owner, Mazzocchi, passed away, leading to the sale of some cars, including this one.
It was subsequently purchased by the current owner, who, with the consultation of Engineer Insalata Andrea, completely and faithfully rebuilt it based on a detailed analysis of the available historical documents, especially those from the Fiat museum.Documents present, registration book of the time, the cdp of the time, now complementary sheet in the name of the new owner, registered Italian and car always been Italian, keeping the old license plateRegistered Jan. 22, 1928, Sassari, now of the new owner who did the restoration work, since 2008.
