Auktionsinfo

MYTO Art Casa d’Aste is pleased to present Auction 41, an extraordinary catalogue celebrating the artistic and collecting history of the Zappettini family, combining Fine Arts and the grand history of costume into two prestigious sections:

The Milanese 20th Century of Mario Zappettini

A precious core of works by master Mario Zappettini, a distinguished 20th-century painter, restorer, and monumental decorator. Integrated into the highest artistic circles of the era—by virtue of his relationship as the brother-in-law of the famous sculptor Giacomo Manzù—Zappettini collaborated closely with architect Giovanni Muzio on iconic projects, such as the Sacred Heart Chapel at the Catholic University and the church of San Giovanni Battista alla Creta. The canvases in the catalogue embody the essence of Italian figurative culture of the time, reflecting his mastery of classical figures, rigorous drawing, and sensitivity to essential compositions.

The Historical Archive of Dilva Zappettini, "The Antiquarian of Fashion"

In dialogue with her father-in-law's canvases, the auction features the treasures of Dilva Zappettini, a legendary figure in Milanese collecting who was active for 35 years with her famous gallery on Via della Moscova. A monumental and previously unpublished collection of nearly 400 antique brooches and pins stands out in the sale, magnificently displayed on fine velvet cushions and antique gilded consoles.

This is a legacy of absolute museum significance: Dilva's infallible taste in recovering embroideries, decorations, and noble garments (such as her famous discovery of the Counts Corradini wardrobe) even attracted the curators of the prestigious Kyoto Costume Institute in Japan. Many of the historical garments and accessories she collected and preserved over the decades were subsequently acquired and designated for the civic collections of the Sforza Castle, and are currently on display at Palazzo Morando.
